Sleepless nights and pressure: Rulani speaks about Maritzburg

Maritzburg United are waiting for Mamelodi Sundiowns and Rulani Mokwena says he is having sleepless night due to pressure.

Mamelodi Sundowns are under pressure against Maritzburg United, Rulani Mokwena explains why he is having sleepless nights.

The reigning DStv Premiership champions and Rulani are out gunning for a place in the Last Eight but Mokwena is wary of the Team of Choice.

Mokwena says the Motsepe Championship side is experienced in top-flight football and it’s causing sleepless nights for him.

Despite the fact that Sundowns won 6-1 over La Masia in the previous round, Rulani is cautious of Maritzburg.

Fresh from a draw in a Tshwane Derby, Mokwena refuses to underestimate Maritzburg when they meet on Sunday.

WHY MOKWENA IS HAVING SLEEPLESS NIGHT OVER MARITZBURG

After their draw against SuperSport United, the astute manager, Mokwena said he will analyse Maritzburg, per Sowetan.

“It should be an interesting one, a good team with Premiership experience with some very good players,” says Rulani about Maritzburg.

“And a good coach [Simo Dladla] and have extensive experience in this competition.

“We have to come well-prepared. These games are very tough, and the difficulty is that everyone expects you to win.

“The pressure is on you, and you have to perform on the day.”

Masandawana have been a dominant force this season as they are unbeaten in the league, Rulani urges his men to rectify their errors.

In addition, the 37-year-old Sundowns boss, Rulani believes his team will be fine if they adjust their mindset.

The ex-Orlando Pirates mentor is also aware that Simo Dladla is out to cause an upset and end Sundowns’ hopes of securing a treble.

“You know, Maritzburg know the league and have a history of doing well in cup competitions,” adds the Sundowns coach about Maritzburg, Rulani.

“We have to make sure we are ready mentally more than anything else. I have to give credit to the technical team we have, particularly our analyses department.

“They load a bit of information on my side, and we spend time trying to prepare and see exactly how they set up.”
