Kaizer Chiefs youngster Neo Bohloko is scoring for fun in the Diski Challenge side. Is he ready for a taste of the first team?

NEO BOHLOKO MADE DISKI CHALLENGE KAIZER CHIEFS HISTORY

In February 2023, Bohloko became the youngster goal-scorer in DDC history when he was just 14. He’s in the Golden Boot race this season, currently with 13 strikes to his name with nine matches left in the season. He started the campaign slowly, scoring just twice before the mid-season break for Afcon. He’s returned in red-hot form in 2024 with 11 goals in eight outings since.

Is he too good for this level of football, even at his tender age? It appears so.

AMAKHOSI FIXTURES ON THE HORIZON

Chiefs must wait until Saturday, March 30th when they travel to Cape Town to face Cape Town City. Amakhosi lost last season’s corresponding fixture on the final day to lose out of fourth place to the Citizens. Kickoff in that match is at 15:30. The turnaround time to their next fixture is a short one, with a clash against Stellenbosch on Tuesday 2 April at 19:30. That’s followed by a trip to Chippa on Saturday 6 April with kickoff at 15:00.

‘The Chief’ isn’t convinced

According to The Citizen, Bafana icon Lucas Radebe is concerned by the state of affairs at Amakhosi. Chiefs twice led the recent Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates, only to go down 3-2 against the Buccaneers. Pirates have done the league double over the Glamour Boys this season. Chiefs are likely to end the season empty-handed after being eliminated from the Nedbank Cup by Milford FC on penalties. Leeds United legend Radebe, formerly of Chiefs, has delivered his verdict.

“Having played for the club, knowing how big a brand it is and not having won a trophy for 10 years, it is worrying,” said Radebe during a conversation with Independent Newspapers.

“It is concerning for such a big club that they have just dropped like this. The fact that they are not in the Nedbank Cup is a big disappointment for the fans and for the club.

“This is what a club strives for – winning trophies and bragging rights. It shows the wrongs that are happening at the club, and there is a lot that is happening that we don’t see, which is a huge problem for me,” added the Leeds United legend.
