Last month it was reported that some officials were involved in an altercation that took place after the DStv Premiership clash between AmaZulu and Royal AM.

AmaZulu fought back from a goal down to claim a 1-1 draw with local rivals Royal AM at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on 25 February, and there was also drama off the field as footage emerged of an unpleasant altercation that took place at the stadium, apparently after the game, and which involved some officials.

According to FARPost, the skirmish primarily involved Royal AM officials and AmaZulu’s security guards after some staff members from the visiting team “tried to force their way into the area where they were allegedly not allowed to enter”.

It was further reported that matters only came under control after the police stepped in.

A report by Zimoja now suggests that security officer Nkosinathi Mbanjwa is determined to take action after being left with a swollen face after an alleged altercation with Royal AM bosses Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize and her son Andile Mpisane.

“I got attacked for doing my job,” Mbanjwa is quoted as saying. “Andile and his mother kept asking me if I knew who they were and threatened to get me arrested.  They assaulted me and people were scared to intervene because MaMkhize is known by high-profile people.”

Apparently the dispute arose after Royal AM officials were denied access to the VIP suites.

“I was aware of the altercation she had with AmaZulu bosses, but I was not expecting them to attack me. Especially when I asked nicely for their accreditation. There was no need for her to attack and insult me. The following day I went to open a case of assault. I am still waiting for my case number, but I got a call from the investigator asking some questions,” added Mbanjwa.
