Already in the midfield area, Chiefs are thought to be ready to offload the likes of Phathutshedzo Nange and Cole Alexander, with SuperSport United keen on their services.

But it seems like it is not only the veteran midfielders that are in danger of being sold by Chiefs, but members of the younger brigade too. Two players below the age of 30 that are thought to be made available for transfer by Amakhosi are George Matlou and Sabelo Radebe. Despite both showing early promise in their respective careers both at Chiefs and elsewhere in the case of Matlou, both players have struggled to see their careers kick on at Naturena.

Matlou only joined Chiefs at the start of last season from Swallows FC, with the fans excited to see what he can offer. The player found himself reduced to very minimal game time at the club, however, which has reportedly prompted the management to put him on the transfer list. Radebe on the other hand, has failed to build on his earlier impressive cameo appearances at the club. Having been promoted to the first team as far back as 2021, Radebe still has a contract until 2026 with the club, but according to the latest reports, he might not be at the club next season.

Richards Bay want Radebe

“It’s true the team (Chiefs) wants to loan him (Radebe) out so that he can get more game time and gain experience, He is a very good midfielder but I think competition has been very tough for him. But if he can go and gain that experience and come back it would work for him. So, it’s good that Richards Bay are interested in him. If the two teams can agree on the terms it would really be good,” said a source to Soccer-Laduma.

Another source then confirmed the nature of the deal Richards Bay are hoping to strike with Chiefs for Radebe.

Could he leave Chiefs permanently

“They want him. They don’t want to get him on loan but to sign him permanently as their player. They want him and the other new players to add depth to the team not just for this season but even beyond. So, they are willing to buy him at the moment rather than getting him on loan,” said the source to the same publication.

It now remains to be seen if Chiefs still believe there is a long-term future for Radebe at the club, because if they do, they can loan the player out and see if he flourishes, then bring him back. Should they not believe he will improve, they can cash in as they could get a sizeable transfer fee for him with three years still left on his contract.
