In an interview with TK Solutions TV, Mokwena feels, as a young coach, he was too energetic and enthusiastic at Pirates.

Mokwena was in charge of the Pirates first team on an interim basis for four months between August and December 2020.

Pirates then hired Josef Zinnbauer with Mokwena being relegated to the role of assistant coach – and he later took leave before being shipped out to Chippa United.

Chippa United then decided Mokwena wasn’t the right coach for them, and subsequently, the Soweto-born mentor returned to Sundowns.

“I think sometimes, the mistake, especially as a young that I made was the energy and enthusiasm that we have, it always brings us into trying to express ourselves,” said Mokwena.

“And at times, it’s not always the right thing to do. It may be the honest thing to do. It may be that you mean well; you mean well and your intentions are good.

“But not everybody is adapted to honesty the way you are recepted to honesty, and that for me has been the biggest lesson in the last couple of months,” added Mokwena.
