Kaizer Chiefs have invested in their playing staff with no less than seven players ahead of the new season, with some coming at a hefty price!

So far Chiefs have announced, Thathayoane Ditlhokwe, Given Msimango, Mduduzi Mdantsane, Edson Castillo, Pule Mmodi, Ranga Chivaviro and Tebogo Potsane

In a balancing act, Chiefs have also seen six players leaving their squad, the likes of Eric Mathoho, Siyabonga Ngezana, Phathutshedzo Nange, Cole Alexander, Khama Billiat, Austin Dube all leaving Naturena. Now according to the latest reports, they’re set to release a seventh in the shape of striker Caleb Bimenyimana. The Burundi international striker is believed to be close to joining Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca. It is thought that a deal has already been agreed by the two clubs, with just the personal terms now outstanding, on the player’s side.

With two centre backs signed, and three allowed to leave, it is clear that the club was intent on revamping that area of the pitch as a priority. Chiefs had often used the likes Edmilson Dove, Zitha Kwinika and Siyabonga Ngezana as regular centre back options last season. The likes of Njabulo Ngcobo, Dube and Mathoho were nothing but bit part players for the club during the previous season. Now out of the list of fringe centre backs, Ngcobo is the only one that has survived while Dube has re-signed for Richards Bay in a two-year deal.

It is then, perhaps unsurprising that Chiefs moved swiftly to sign two centre backs as their earliest acquisitions in Ditlhokwe and Msimango. The two are now expected to form a new-look pairing at the heart of the club’s defence. While the former SuperSport United man came on a free, that was not the case for the former TS Galaxy captain. 

Chiefs paid Galaxy big bucks for Msimango!
