PSL: Pitso says he’s “not inspired” by the league this year

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane gave a frank admission that another PSL title is not his on his priority list, following his side’s 2-0 defeat to Supersport United in Wednesday night’s Tshwane Derby at Loftus Versfeld.

The defending league champions remain six points behind the table-topping Orlando Pirates with two games in hand, and slipped to third in the log standings.

The fixture was their first back in domestic competition since seeing off Egyptian giants Al Ahly rather convincingly over two legs to book a spot in the Caf Champions League semifinals, where they are set to meet 2017 champions Wydad Casablanca form Morocco.

Speaking after what was only his side’s third league in the current season, the former Bafana mentor said the uncertainty that comes with the pending sanction over fielding an ineligible player has hindered his drive for the club’s ninth PSL title.

“You don’t know how many points you have in the bag, this thing takes too long.

“You can’t fight when you don’t know how much ammunition you have.

“Personally I’m not inspired by the league this year. Win or lose it’s complicated, last year I thought we were still going through teething problems when you didn’t know how many points you needed to win the league.”

Sundowns face the possibility of losing the point earned in their 1-1 draw against Bidvest Wits, where they fielded defender Wayne Arendse, who was not in the original matchday squad until shortly before kick off.

The club was found guilty of contravention PSL rules, and now await sanction, which could change the face of the title race.

“Rules are rules but deal with this thing as quickly as possible man there’s a lot of mixed feelings,” Mosimane added.

Mosimane’s men are in action on Saturday as they travel to play Baroka in the weekend’s only league fixture before returning home against Chippa United on Tuesday.
