Pitso Mosimane keeps being mentioned in the same breath as Kaizer Chiefs. Let’s recap what’s been said.

Pitso Mosimane, Kaizer Chiefs and the ongoing saga

Is Pitso ruling out African clubs?

After having his Al Wahda contract ripped up after just 10 games, Pitso focused on family during Christmas 2023. He also discussed his short-term ambitions at the tail-end of what was an eventful year for Jingles:

“To be honest, there is interest in me now and in a totally different space that you and I could ever think of – Asia, not the Gulf,” he stated.

“So there has been interest. And there’s been an interesting one also from North America. And why not? Why not go to North America, why not go to Japan, China, those places, because for us, it is also our legacy.

“So if you can get a project that’s interesting in the Gulf, just for example, and a similar project in Asia, probably I would go to Asia, just to go see.

“But on that one, national teams, I don’t have a problem to be back in the continent, but club-wise no.”

Short-term Abha deal leaves the door open

You can never say never in football. After recently penning a four-month deal with Abha, Pitso will become available again at the end of June 2024. His current mandate is to keep Abha in the Saudi Pro League; they’re second from bottom and three points adrift of safety with 10 games of the campaign to play. Pitso has a job on his hands, that’s for sure. Will Amakhosi pounce? More importantly, will he even be interested in any potential proposal?

Is Pitso to Kaizer Chiefs a good fit?

Right now, Chiefs resemble more of a business and commercial vehicle than a football club. The shareholders seem okay with that too. Pitso Mosimane is a man who demands success, especially in short stints, and Chiefs need a legacy manager to stick around for the long haul. Immediately, it’s clear that there are compatibility issues right off the bat. 2025 will be the tenth anniversary of Kaizer Chiefs not winning a trophy, which is hilarious for Pirates and Sundowns fans, not so much for the long-suffering Amakhosi faithful. Pitso won’t want any part of that.
