Former Orlando Pirates defender Edward “Magents” Motale says the Buccaneers can’t afford to prioritise one trophy over another.

The Sea Robbers won the MTN8 and the Nedbank Cup in what was their most successful season in over a decade.

This season, Pirates have to defend their two trophies and also aim to win the new Carling Cup tournament. On top of that, they are also participating in the CAF Champions League and DStv Premiership.

Former Pirates captain demands the club to go for every trophy

Motale, who captained Pirates to their only CAF truimph back in 1995, told Soccer Laduma that his former team can go on and win a treble if not more.

“You cannot chose which trophy to win and which one not to win. Every trophy is important for Pirates. What I can tell you is that the spirit in the camp looks good. That’s the moral you need in the team. You know at times if you have a squad like what Pirates have this season, it would be difficult to keep everyone happy,” he said.

Motale says every trophy is important and the Buccaneers should fight until the very end.

The Soweto Giants are on the verge of making their first final of the season. They hold a 2-1 first-leg advantage over Stellenbosch FC and need to avoid a high-scoring defeat to secure a passage to the final.

Jose Riveiro’s team though have suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time and goes into the Stellies game low on confidence. Should Pirates manage to reach the MTN8 final, they will resume their rivalry with Mamelodi Sundowns.
