Orlando Pirates defender Olisa Ndah claims that he hadn’t heard of Sundowns before his move to the PSL.

He claims that everyone in Nigeria knew Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

Sundowns recent success on the continent hasn’t raised the profile of the team that much according to the defender.

“For me personally, I never knew Sundowns before. I started knowing about them in the (Caf) Champions League because they were doing wonderfully well. It was always Chiefs and Pirates we knew (in Nigeria), Pirates also because of Okpara,” Ndah said on GameOn on Radio2000.

“I think what I know about them is that they built a team and are now reaping what they sowed. It’s a process. It takes time and belief. If we can also believe we can challenge for the league, we can achieve,” he concluded.

Speaking ahead of the weekend’s Soweto derby Ndah said he’s not worried in the least about Kaizer Chiefs’ striker Wandile Duba.

Ready for Kaizer Chiefs

A brilliant first senior goal by 19-year-old Duba earned Kaizer Chiefs a 1-0 win over Lamontville Golden Arrows in midweek while Pirates were held by Cape Town Spurs.

“I’ll be ready for the derby,” a confident Duba said on SuperSportTV after game.

“They (Pirates) should be ready for me. I’m coming.”

Ndah doesn’t feel that Duba is a player to fear.

“No, I don’t think it’s a challenge, they just scored a goal,” he told journalists according to iDiski Times.

“I’m not worried about what the little guy said, I think he is more excited.

“So I’m just looking forward to the next game on Saturday, we just have to deliver.”

Orlando Pirates need to up their game this time

Ndah believes that Chiefs have been better at raising their game for the Soweto Derby in the past.

“I think because the Derby motivates them like it does to us,” he added.

“No matter what, no matter how bad we’re playing, it’s a Derby where everyone is at its best and everyone wants to deliver.

“So I think it’s more like on the occasion, because they know how important it is, so they become more difficult to play.”
