The Buccaneers were strong favourites to pick up maximum points at Usuthu as they had not lost to them in Durban in over 10 years.

However, it wasn’t to be as AmaZulu went into this encounter extremely motivated after beating Kaizer Chiefs in the Carling Knockout Cup last week.

It was a very physical match between the two sides’ with two of AmaZulu defenders in Taariq Fielies and Veluyeke Zulu limping off injured in the first half.

Both teams created half-goalscoring chances throughout the game, but it was Pirates who dominated possession.

As a result, Pirates moved up to 13th on the log with eight points from six games while Usuthu are now placed 10th with 11 points.
