On 11 November, reports emerged that Pirates had signed Marou Souaibou for a fee believed to be around R3.5 million.

However, there appears to be a new development with Souaibou’s agent Mike Makaab suggesting that the move may no longer happen.

According to Makaab, the manner in which the deal was leaked and prematurely announced didn’t sit well him and possibly with Pirates chairman Dr Irvin Khoza.

Makaab further confirmed that he would meet with the Pirates boss today to hear what the way forward is regarding Souaibou’s deal.

But above all, Makaab confirmed that nothing between Coton Sport and Pirates has been concluded as yet.

ORLANDO PIRATES TO CALL OFF SOUAIBOU DEAL?

“The statement was released prematurely and the deal hasn’t been concluded,” Maakab said on Gagasi FM.

“We are very annoyed and I know that Orlando Pirates is very annoyed because that’s not how the chairman [Dr Irvin Khoza] operates.

“Obviously, what has happened is that somewhere along the lines, a source within the club or someone connected to a source within Coton Sport has released the details of the deal.

“And that’s not how Orlando Pirates operates, and that’s not how we work as a professional agency.”

“So, the deal hasn’t been done, I can assure you. The chances are that the deal won’t be done based on the fact that it was released in a very unprofessional manner. So, we’re not sure where we are going from here,” added Maakab.
