Souaibou Marou is the player in question, and his agent Mike Makaab admitted to SABC Sport that his company needs to act and do what’s best for the player.

Marou has seen other strikers overtake him in the pecking order at Pirates, and with his situation not improving, Makaab conceded that a move away from the Sea Robbers is imminent.

However, what both parties – Marou’s camp and Pirates – should decide is whether the Cameroon international leaves on loan or permanently.

Makaab further admitted that the January transfer window is a bit complicated with foreign internationals, saying perhaps a loan move to another PSL side would be ideal at this stage.

“It’s a strange situation because he is really highly rated, but this happens in football where coaches see players in a different light,” Makaab explained.

“I don’t understand, to be honest with you – the boy hasn’t been given an opportunity.”

“Maybe he hasn’t shown enough to be given an opportunity, that I can’t say. We will be looking for opportunities for him now, although the January window is never easy, particularly with foreign players,” added the agent.

“We might have to look at an opportunity for him locally on loan, with an option [to buy outright]. And then we would look outside our SA borders.

“He was Player of the Year in Cameroon, the top goal scorer, and made it to the Cameroon World Cup squad as the only local player. He hasn’t become a bad player overnight.

“I am not blaming anybody, but it is now our obligation to Marou – and the football club – to see if we can find the best solution for both parties.”

MAROU HAD HOPED TO USE ORLANDO PIRATES AS STEPPINGSTONE

After scoring 39 goals in two seasons for Coton Sport prior to his move to the PSL, Marou had hoped to use Pirates as a steppingstone to realising his European dream.

And that’s according to Makaab who said the focus is now on getting Marou’s career back on track as soon as possible.

To date, Marou has featured in just seven matches for Pirates under Jose Riveiro since 2022; six of which were from the bench.

“We’d hoped he would join Pirates, progress, and hopefully get him into Europe. Sadly, this has gone awry. It’s very important now to get his career back on track,” concluded Makaab.
