Pirates should keep Lesedi Kapinga, says club legend

Former Orlando Pirates star Alfred ‘Shakes’ Gwabeni says the Buccaneers should keep Lesedi Kapinga for next season.

The 28-year-old midfielder signed for Pirates on Deadline Day but has struggled to break into the first team.

In November, the Soweto giants confirmed that Kapinga suffered a hamstring injury but was expected to return to action very soon.

By December, the ex-Mamelodi Sundowns man was back at training but again was not selected by Pirates coach Jose Riveiro.

Gwabeni says the club needs to be patient with the dribbling wizard.

Lesedi Kapinga backed to succeed at Pirates

“Well, he has just arrived. He has not gotten a chance yet so it’s too soon to say keep or sell him,” he was quoted on Soccer Laduma.

“For me, he is a good player and worth keeping. I know Pirates right now, have enough players in that attacking midfield role, but I think Kapinga can still contribute there at his age.

Pirates coach Jose Riveiro backed Kapinga but also warned that the player has a lot of players in the club to compete with.
