Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana side will have 132 million reasons to go all the way for the country at the upcoming AFCON tournament!

This year’s AFCON will see a 40% increase in prize money with the eventual champion set to walk away with $7 million!

The South African national team have been drawn alongside Namibia, Tunisia and Mali in group E.

South Africa last qualified for the AFCON tournament back in 2019 where they were knocked out in the quarterfinals.

Bafana Bafana will be based in Korhogo, Ivory Coast for their three group matches which will all take place at the world-class Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium.

“CAF has made significant progress over the past two years in increasing the prize money of the AFCON and all its other major competitions,” CAF president Patrice Motsepe said in a statement.

“We have increased the prize money of the AFCON winner to $7m which is a 40 per cent increase from the previous AFCON prize money”

Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana side get their campaign underway on 16 January 2024 when they face Mali at 22:00 SAST.

Bafana are then in action against Namibia on 21 January 2024 at 22:00 SAST.

South Africa’s final group stage match takes place on 24 January 2024 at 19:00 SAST against Tunisia.

“If we don’t pass the group stages, we will not be happy,” – Bafana coach Hugo Broos said as quoted by TimesLive.

“Passing the group stages has to be our first goal, but it is the most difficult thing to do in the tournament. You are playing against three opponents who are 100% motivated. They’re 100% physically and mentally in order and they also want to pass the group stages.

“In a tournament everything is important. But let’s focus from the start on the group stages and try to qualify Bafana to the next round.”
