Orlando Pirates return to DStv Premiership action tonight when they host Royal AM at the Orlando Stadium.

Jose Riveiro’s side opened up their 2023/24 league campaign with a disappointing 1-0 loss away against Stellenbosch.

The club will be desperate to bounce back immediately but standing in their way is a Royal AM side with much to prove.

Orlando Pirates provide squad update

“With games coming in thick and fast, there could be a few changes made by Bucs coach Jose Riveiro for the midweek fixture.” an official Orlando Pirates update read.

“Club captain Innocent Maela was among the unused subs over the weekend, and could lead the Soweto Giants out in their first home fixture.

“Meanwhile, the likes of Makhehlene Makhaula and new signing Katlego Otladisa could be set for a more extended run out on the field after cameo appearances at Danie Craven Stadium.

“For Thwihli Thwahla, there could be starts on the cards for veteran striker Ruzaigh Gamildien and midfielder Kabelo Mahlasela after both did not feature against AmaZulu.”

Bucs ready to move on from ‘accident’

“I think the last time we lost a game was against Kaizer Chiefs in February. After that we had a fantastic record together and if I have to lose one game, I would like to do it like how we did today, fighting until the end.” Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro told reporters.

“We created opportunities…. Pushed our opponent to the limit. It’s football, it can happen like it happened today that you perform like this and you go home with zero points.

“We are lucky that we get to play on Tuesday again at home and to show there that today was just an accident to lose.”

Royal AM want three points from Orlando Pirates

“I think this game becomes more important for us because we’ve just come from a draw against AmaZulu this past weekend so it’s vital for us to try and grab all three points in the upcoming matc against Orlando Pirates.” Siphesihle Msomi told IOL.
