Orlando Pirates chasing Congolese striker

Pirates have reportedly reached an agreement to sign 23-year-old Congolese striker Guy Mbenza but the details of the deal are still unclear. Mbenza has played club football in his native Congo, Tunisia, Belgium and Saudi Arabia. One of Phakaaathi’s sources claim he is one of the major reasons the Buccaneers pulled out of a deal for Ranga Chivaviro.

Pirates have other fish to fry

The Buccaneers pulled out of the running for Chivaviro who has since signed for Kaizer Chiefs. They’ve completed a deal for Katlego Otladisa and are now approaching an agreement for Mbenza.

“Pirates were offered a younger option in Mbenza. And while I am not sure if he has signed yet, Pirates have tabled an offer for him,” says a source.

“He should be in the country soon to conclude the deal. If he signs, he will link up with his new teammates.

“And then the coaches will decide who they keep and loan out once they have seen all their strikers together.”

Riveiro with a surplus of strikers

Orlando Pirates currently have a number of strikers who won’t get game time at the club. However, with Jose Riveiro’s double winners fighting on five fronts, they’ll need rotational options.

Which strikers do you think will still be shipped out of the club?
