OPINION: Kaizer Chiefs should sell Castillo and buy these two players with the cash

Two for the price of one.

Kaizer Chiefs are reaching a crossroads, but they could be smart about using funds from player sales to plug the gaps in their squad.

Castillo is wanted in Egypt

According to local outlet Soccer Laduma, Chiefs were open to an offer from Egyptian giants Zamalek, provided they met Amakhosi’s evaluation of the player. That number stood at R40 million, a shade under €2 million in today’s exchange rate.

“Now that the inquiry has reached the management stage, they have come up with the price that will fit Castillo if he is to leave before his contract expires. He is a quality player, and for him to attract interest from outside means they have seen something, and that’s why the board and management think the right price is around R40 million,” the publication said.

Sphephelo Sithole is more suited

Tondela and Bafana Bafana man nicknamed ‘Yaya’ churned out some storming performances at Afcon 2023. He’s appeared 17 times in the second-tier of Portuguese football this term, scoring twice and assisting twice. With reported interest from Italy’s Serie A, the combative 25-year-old midfield maestro won’t come cheap. Like his Bafana teammate Teboho Mokoena, who lays the foundation for a dominant Sundowns team, Sithole has the quality and authority to give the Chiefs midfield something it’s lacked for so many years. From there, they could build and become a more fluent, coherent football team.

Kaizer Chiefs could do with Mokwana’s directness

According to a report from iDiski Times, it would take R35 million to prize Elias Mokwana, Babina Noko’s jewel in the crown, away from Sekhukhune. Let’s be honest. That number will drop sharply once Sekhukhune receives some formal offers for the Bafana Bafana man. He’s got four goals and four assists in 19 league appearances this term, a stellar output for a wide attacker.

Would you be happy if the club cashed in on Castillo and reinvested those funds in Sphephelo Sithole and Elias Mokwana? Hypothetically speaking, of course. Let us know in the comments section below.
