Kaizer Chiefs supporters just want this DStv Premiership season to be over. But first, Amakhosi need to ensure safety from relegation.

DSTV PREMIERSHIP: KAIZER CHIEFS LOSE TO RICHARDS BAY FC

The mighty Kaizer Chiefs travelled to Durban on Sunday needing a first win in five games and a first goal in three matches. Sadly for Cavin Johnson’s side, a 1-0 defeat was the result. Amakhosi slipped down to 10th place with only one win in 10 matches.

“We missed so many chances,” coach Johnson said as quoted by the Citizen after the game.

“We are just not putting it in the back of the net. I think the only shot at goal they had came from the corner that they scored from.

“What can you do? It is like a stuck record, you have to go back and make sure you put the ball in the back of the net. Everything else is there.

“It is not just the players, all of us have to take responsibility,” the Kaizer Chiefs mentor added.

“We have to do something else to make sure they are in the right space and mind. When you see the number of shots we had, we have to put two away.

“I think this is the third game we have played (recently) where the (opposition) goalkeeper is the Man-of-the-Match.

“We have to look at ourselves and tell ourselves that is not possible. We have to pull our socks up. Again that starts with me and the players will follow,” the Kaizer Chiefs tactician concluded.

Results in the last 10 matches:

  • 1-1 draw with Sekhukhune United
  • 0-0 draw with Royal AM
  • 5-4 loss (penalties) to Milford FC
  • 0-0 draw with Moroka Swallows
  • 1-0 win over Golden Arrows
  • 3-2 loss to Orlando Pirates
  • 0-0 draw with Cape Town City
  • 1-0 loss to Stellenbosch FC
  • 2-0 loss to Chippa United
  • 1-0 loss to Richards Bay.

Are Kaizer Chiefs safe from relegation? The answer is not yet.

WHAT AMAKHOSI NEED

Looking at the bottom half of the DStv Premiership, rock-bottom Cape Town Spurs are on 12 points. With six games remaining, Spurs can only earn a maximum of 30 points. This means that Kaizer Chiefs, in 10th place with 29 points, only require one point from the remaining six matches.

Last six fixures for Kaizer Chiefs:

  • SuperSport United – Home
  • Mamelodi Sundowns – Home
  • AmaZulu – Away
  • Polokwane City – Home
  • Cape Town Spurs – Away
  • TS Galaxy – Home (this fixture was postponed in February).
