Official: Mamelodi Sundowns beat Orlando Pirates to Andile Jali replacement! 

Mamelodi Sundowns have sealed a deal with TS Galaxy for the signature of midfielder Bathusi Aubaas, beating Orlando Pirates to his signature.

Aubaas had been the subject of intense speculation for two seasons now, with all of Kaizer Chiefs, Pirates and Sundowns showing interest.

Chiefs were the first of the teams that showed interest in Aubaas two seasons ago, but failed to make any advances in signing the player. They then decided to go abroad for their midfield signing in Edson Castillo. It has been Pirates who were hot on the heels of the Galaxy man recently, before Sundowns ended up winning the race for his services.

Pirates were already pursuing the services of Aubaas before the end of the previous season, with the interest intensifying after the 2022/23 campaign. The player’s star then rose even further when he made his Bafana Bafana debut and to aplomb against a quality Moroccan outfit, bossing the midfield together with Mamelodi Sundowns’ Teboho Mokoena. Then controversy would strike between SAFA and Galaxy, innocently involving the Buccaneers.

SAFA then accidentally wrote down Aubaas’ club as Pirates instead of Galaxy in the match day program of that 2023 AFCON qualifier 2-1 victory over the Moroccans. That clearly incensed the chairman of the club who took to his official Twitter account to convey his disappointment. That, unfortunately for the ‘Happy People’ that seems to be the only time they will see the midfield anchorman associated with their club.

Now earlier this week, this publication reported that they Sundowns had agreed terms with Galaxy on a transfer fee for Aubaas, and now the Brazilians have released official communication of the signing.

Sundowns have now reunited the Bafana Bafana partnership of Aubaas and Mokoena, which should be a scary sight for the rest of the players in the DStv Premiership.
