Ntseki gunning for glory with Kaizer Chiefs

Former Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki is gunning for gold at Chiefs, who haven’t won a trophy since their DStv Premiership success in 2015. The Glamour Boys face treble-winning Yanga SC today in a high-profile friendly hosted at the Benjamin Mkapa stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Ahead of the clash, Ntseki had this to say:

“We’re happy to be in Tanzania. As a club, we have been here before [playing Simba SC in the Champions League]. So it’s a home away from home.

“The preparations [for the new season] are going very well. We are happy with the preparations, and we are happy to be here,” he told journalists.

New coach believes Yanga tie is a good acid test

Ntseki believes the Yanga tie will help prepare his charges for future continental challenges. Yanga SC, also known as Young Africans, are a team of fine pedigree having won two successive trebles.

“Playing a team that has achieved a lot. It’ll be a good game for both teams in terms of preparing for the new season.”

However, Ntseki knows returning to the continent means Chiefs need to start winning trophies and the league.

“It’s a very good step that we’re taking to play outside the country so that we can have a feel of how it’s like if we are to win the league and play Champions League next season,” he said.

“We’re looking forward to having a strong team that will compete in the league, and if things go well, we’ll see ourselves competing in the Champions League.”

Chiefs started their pre-season in Nelspruit. Now they’re in Tanzania, and next weekend they’re off to Botswana to face Township Rollers on July 29th. Ntseki said the club planned a six-week scheme covering the physical and tactical aspects of the game.

The club have brought in seven new faces in the shape of Given Msimango, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Pule Mmodi, Mduduzi Mdantsane, Edson Castillo, Tebogo Potsane and Ranga Chivaviro. They are also in talks with SuperSport number 10 RowanHuman.

Amakhosi begin the 2023-24 DStv Premiership campaign with a clash against Chippa on 5 August at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
