BREAKING: Ntseki pinpoints reasons for Downs defeat

NTSEKI PINPOINTS KEY KAIZER CHIEFS ERRORS

New signing, Venezuelan midfielder Edson Castillo, gave away possession leading to the first goal and keeper Brandon Petersen’s blunder handed Sundowns the win inside stoppage time.

Molefi admitted his side made a cardinal error by allowing Sundowns to control the game, especially in the first period.

“If you look at our game plan. In the first half, we gave them too much possession of the ball. This was not the plan because we were fully aware that they like to slow down the game, especially when it’s a goal kick,” Ntseki told SuperSport TV.

“The mistake we made was to drop deep and to allow them to dictate terms in terms of team play and playing through the midfield.”

Reasons to remain optimistic

Ntseki also revealed two specific issues he addressed at the half-time break.

“When we came into the second half, we addressed two things at half-time. One: Let’s put pressure on them. Let’s not allow them to play through the midfield, and I think we did very well in the second half, taking control of the game.”

Chiefs drew level through Ashley Du Preez after a rare bright spell with Ntseki believing that the substitutions brought energy and dynamism to their game. Tebogo Potsane provided the assist for Du Preez’s goal with a telling cross.

“I think the substitutions we made they gave us the energy we needed going forward. We got a goal from a very good move, individually, putting them under pressure, but after that, I think the concentration levels went down, and we allowed them to get the second goal.”
