It now seems as if at least one of those players has done very little to convince the Pirates’ management that he is worthy to stay on at the club. That particular player is Cameroonian striker Marou. The marksman arrived at the Buccaneers amongst much fanfare, as he had just come back from the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He was also a rare case in the Indomitable Lions squad for the showpiece, as a he was a locally based player at the time.

Marou may have not taken to the field at the World Cup, but for Pirates fans, just him being there was a marker of the calibre of player they were set to sign. Things have not turned out that way for the player at the club, however, as he remained a bit part player throughout the second half of the season, not being able to score nor lay an assist for his teammates. In the end, he even ended up losing his place on the bench to fellow Cameroonian Bienvenu Eva Nga, who was also previously out of favour under Jose Riveiro

now according to Soccer-Laduma, Pirates are considering either loaning or selling Marou ahead of next season.

Pirates consider offloading Marou

“I think they feel he hasn’t lived up to the expectations. Remember he was with the Cameroon national team at the World Cup in Qatar and a lot was expected from him but it hasn’t been like that (in South Africa), hey feel the other strikers he found at the team have done better than him. So, they are looking at whether to loan him out or put him on the transfer list, They feel it took him too long to adapt and that made it difficult for him. Now, they want him to get some game time somewhere and maybe when he comes back things could be better for him. I think it will be a loan and not a transfer. He still has two years left on his contract because he signed for two and a half years. So, a loan move makes sense at the moment,” said a source to the same publication.
