No Kaizer Chiefs players left at the Afcon

Kaizer Chiefs defender Edmilson Dove was the sole Khosi player at the Afcon until Mozambique was eliminated in the group stages.

Kaizer Chiefs defender Edmilson Dove was the only Amakhosi player who took part in the ongoing African Cup of Nations.

With Mozambique eliminated from the tournament, the Glamour Boys have no player representing them at the Afcon games.

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos caused a stir when he left out Chiefs players during his Afcon squad selection. Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates players dominated Broos squad and the Belgian mentor immediately gave his reasons why he went with certain players who were either off form or lacked game time.

In September, the Bafana coach faced a backlash after he left out Kaizer Chiefs players from his  23-man squad.

At the time, Broos said Amakhosi players were not good enough to play for the national team.

With Chiefs struggling under Molefi Ntseki, it was perhaps obvious to agree with what the former Cameroon national football coach was saying.

“I think I’m too straight, I tell the things how they are. I don’t like to say it’s grey when it’s white or black, for me it’s black or white. What I feel is the truth but they don’t accept it,” Broos told SABC last year.

“For example when I spoke about the players of Chiefs, everyone is angry because I said that but it is like that, Chiefs don’t play good at the moment. So what did I say wrong?” Broos added.
