Kaizer Chiefs lost a chance to lift a trophy and ex-coach Muhsin Ertugral looks at why they fail as Mamelodi Sundowns succeed.

Ertugral says Chiefs have no proper structure in place to ensure they continue to succeed like Sundowns.

Moreover, Ertugral argues that poor or lack of planning by Chiefs’ technical leadership is the reason they fail.

In an interview with Radio 2000’s Game On show, Ertugral says Kaizer Motaung Jr. is not planning for the future.

ERTUGRAL POINTS CHIEFS AND SUNDOWNS DIFFERENCES

The Nedbank Cup was Chiefs’ last chance to fight for a trophy as they will finish nine successive seasons without one.

However, the same is not happening at Sundowns who are chasing their seventh DStv Premiership title in a row.

Ertugral looks at the most recent embarrassing Nedbank Cup exit at the hands of minnows, Milford FC.

“The biggest problem is that the greatest enemy of yourself is always the illusion of knowledge,” says Ertugral about Chiefs and Sundowns.

“So, if you think you know it, that’s an illusion and that’s the enemy for you.

“So in the end, if you don’t know today’s football is changing everyday.

“And as I went myself to the Turkish national team.”

Furthermore, Mshini continues to criticize Chiefs’ planning and lack of structure.

“It was for me also to adjust to the situation of what is happening,” adds the coach.

“So I think you can see with Sundowns, they are running away in South African football.

“They are competing internationally as well, behind the scenes, for me, there are very influential people.

“I can’t not mention Mr. (Flemming) Berg.”

CHIEFS NOT PLANNING BEHIND THE SCENES LIKE SUNDOWNS

In addition, Ertugral adds that Chiefs fail to plan for the future and looks at why Sundowns succeed.

On top of that, Amakhosi’s unwanted struggles began in 2021 when ex-striker Motaung Jr. was named the Sporting Director.

“Behind the scenes, he (Berg) is already looking to the future,” continues Ertugral about Chiefs.

“Sporting directors are not the ones grinding the results.

“That’s the technical part, but sporting directors and people behind the scenes are grinding results for the next 10 years.

“I don’t think that’s what’s being done by Kaizer Jnr or behind the scenes.

“But you really need to have expertise who can handle and grind the results for the next 10 years.

“That’s what’s not happening at Chiefs.”
