PICTURE: The new MTN8 trophy officially presented!

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has presented the new MTN8 trophy which all the eight teams will fight for from this coming weekend.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has presented the new MTN8 trophy which all the eight teams will fight for from this coming weekend.

This means Orlando Pirates will get to keep the old trophy after they won it in May in beating Sekhukhune United 2-1.

The old trophy was first introduced in 2008 when MTN took over the sponsorship for the top eight-teams tournament.

Since then, Pirates coincidentally won lifted the old MTN8 trophy on four occasions, and that’s more than any other team in the league.

Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United have won the MTN8 twice each while Mamelodi Sundowns only won it once.

This weekend’s fixtures will see Sundowns host Moroka Swallows on Saturday before Pirates host Sekhukhune United in a later kick-off.

On Saturday, Chiefs will be away to Cape Town City while SuperSport United will be at home against Stellenbosch FC.
