‘If I tell the truth, I’ll be in trouble’ – Sundowns’ Mokwena

Mamelodi Sundowns’ superstar coach Rhulani Mokwena was left unsure about the officiating against Wydad Casablanca.

Mamelodi Sundowns went to Wydad Casablanca and came back with a 2-1 defeat, and that away goal has big value.

After sending Al Ahly packing out of the semi-finals last weekend, Kabo Yellow have travelled to Casablanca to fight in the first away leg.

A Rivaldo Coetzee own goal was followed by Abdelmounaim Boutouil’s penalty equaliser, before Anas Serrhut smashed in a worldie on the 78th minute.

Speaking to the media after the game, Sundowns coach Mokwena was not unhappy with the result, but the officiating left him with a question or two.

“Congrats to Wydad on the win, it’s only half-time,” Mokwena told SABC Sport.

“Let me also congratulate my players for an incredible effort, fighting spirit to come back and try very, very hard.

“Our attack was not as potent and aggressive, but ok we take the away goal and we move. It’s two good teams, very difficult [tie]. We have to win, and we’ll do our best to win,” Mokwena said.


“If I really tell you the truth maybe I’m in trouble,” Mokwena continued.

“Because I think [if] Jabrane gets a red card instead of a yellow, then it’s 10 vs 11 but that’s football, you know what I mean,” the Sundowns tactician concluded.

Meanwhile, Sundowns will host the second left game at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Sunday, at 15:00.
