RIP Bongi Ntuli: Fans will remember AmaZulu star for funny ‘Hand of God’ moment [watch]

South African football fans are mourning the untimely passing of AmaZulu FC striker Bongi Ntuli who passed away on Sunday, 5 November, at the age of 32.

The footballer has been remembered for many things, including one of his best Premier Soccer League (PSL) season which came in 2019/20, where he scored 13 goals in the league and participated in all 30 games for Usuthu.

Ntuli has also been remembered for pull off something similar to Diego Maradona’s “Hand Of God.”

The moment came during the 2018/19 ABSA Premiership season when AmaZulu were taking on Lamontville Golden Arrows in a KwaZulu-Natal derby, at the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium.

During the match, Ntuli turns into a basketball player when he deliberately dribbles the ball around an Arrows defender using his hands.

Ntuli continues play into the Arrows 18-yard area, before being tackled by the opposition’s defender to win a penalty for his club. He slots the penalty in to complete his brace. Usuthu win the match 2-0.

The Durban-based football club announced Ntuli’s passing in a statement.

“It is with a very heavy heart that we inform you of the untimely passing of our beloved centre-forward and loyal servant, Bonginkosi Ntuli,” read the statement.

The club disclosed that Ntuli succumbed to cancer.

“Ntuli was (very recently) diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, which metastasized and ultimately led to his death at the Midlands Medical Centre Private Hospital, in Pietermaritzburg this afternoon.

“May his beautiful soul rest in eternal peace. The club requests privacy and patience be granted his family and friends at this difficult time.”
