Mamelodi Sundowns are the champions of the African Football League. What does it me for the CAF Champions League?

As confirmed in the past few weeks, goals from Peter Shalulile and Aubrey Modiba made Sundowns lift the first-ever African Football League tournament.

According to Grant Kekana, the championship gives Kabo Yellow all the confidence they need to win a second CAF Champions League since 2016.

“It will give us a great sense of confidence going into the Champions League. We know what happened last season,” Kekana said on the Sowetan before facing FC Nouadhibou of Mauritania in the group stage on Sunday.

“The AFL proved that we can do it against the big guns and we became victorious in that competition, and we want to continue with that winning momentum, that mentality.

“The AFL was just the start of something even bigger and we hope that this season, the Champions League will be brought home but we know it is going to be a difficult journey,” the Sundowns central defender added.
