Maluleka has since game time hard to come by since joining Sundowns, and is believed to now be considering an exit.

Maluleka joined Sundowns amid controversy

Maluleka joined Sundowns in rather controversial circumstances, when it was discovered that he had signed a pre-contract with the Brazilians from Kaizer Chiefs, in January 2020. With his deal at Amakhosi set to expire in six-months, he was well within his rights to speak and conclude a deal with another club under FIFA’s Bosman rule.

What caused the controversy, however, was the manner in which the deal had been done. Although a player is allowed to speak to other clubs during that period, the interested club is also obliged to alert the player’s current club that, they are speaking to him over the possibility of signing him. Chiefs claimed that Sundowns did not do so, therefore didn’t follow the correct procedures.

Chiefs then axed Maluleka

However, after finding out that Maluleka had indeed signed for Sundowns as per rumours at the time, Chiefs decided to part ways with the player and exclude him from their bio bubble squad, which eventually failed to maintain their lead at the top of the table, and subsequently lose out on the league to Sundowns.

Maluleka would eventually make his move to Sundowns the next season, coming off the bench to force a penalty against Chiefs in the opening game of last season’s DStv Premiership. He would get much more joy from there, however, and struggled to make enough appearances in both league and cup games.

As the struggle continued, reports would then emerge that, the reason Maluleka wasn’t playing at Sundowns was because he was former coach Pitso Mosimane’s signing and not that of the current regime. Now that he has struggled yet again this season, those reports seem to have more weight on them. Maybe that is why,  “Mido” is thought to be considering his future according to The Citizen

He is now reported to be considering a January exit

The publication states that it understands Maluleka is “frustrated” with his current situation at the club, and is said to be “weighing up his options and could move in January on a loan deal” have had a source close to the player and the club give a bit of insight on it.

“Sundowns operate on an open-door policy, meaning that if a player is unhappy, he can always approach the coaches and see if they can allow him to go out on loan to get more game time, and at this rate, that is where Maluleka is headed,” said the source.

So with that being said, don’t be surprised to see Maluleka wearing different colours come the conclusion of the upcoming January transfer window.
