Huge interest in Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rhulani Mokwena BUT…

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rhulani Mokwena has attracted both locally and abroad, according to his agent Steve Kapelushnick.

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rhulani Mokwena has attracted both locally and abroad, according to his agent Steve Kapelushnick.

BUT Mokwena has no intentions to leave the Tshwane giants just yet…

Kapelushnick was responding to reports that Mokwena has been shortlisted for the head coaching job by Tanzanian giants Simba SC.

Speaking to Soccer Laduma, Kapelushnick confirmed huge interest in Mokwena’s services in the last six months.

“I will be honest, in the last six months or so there have been enquiries about Rhulani both locally and outside of the country,” confirmed Kapelushnick.

“The truth is that he remains committed to Sundowns,” he said.

Mokwena is in his second spell with Sundowns having returned to the club just before the departure of Pitso Mosimane to Al Ahly in 2020.

He initially took the decision to join Orlando Pirates as Micho Sredojevic’s assistant before being promoted to coach the first team following the Serbian mentor’s departure.

Mokwena also coached Chippa United but his tenure ended prematurely after a single game in charge but that was due to the disruption caused by Covid-19 in 2020.

Mokwena is contracted to Sundowns until June 2024, and it remains to be see if he will consider entertaining offers before the expiry of his current deal.
