Mamelodi Sundowns make decision on Bongani Zungu amid Kaizer Chiefs talk!

Following the refuted rumours of Kaizer Chiefs still circling for Bongani Zungu, Mamelodi Sundowns have decided the player’s future.

It was never a secret that Chiefs were interested in Zungu, and were rumoured to be ready to bring the player back to the country while he was still in France.

When the player finally left his French club Amiens SC, it was thought that Chiefs were going to pounce on Zungu. Amakhosi supporters were spamming the club’s various social media platforms in the hope of having the player sign for their team. The lanky midfielder himself had been teasing a possible move at times, posting himself on video calls with Keegan Dolly, a close friend of his from their time at Sundowns and Bafana Bafana.

What made matters even more interesting was that Chiefs had just sanctioned a deal to bring Dolly back from the country after his contract expired in France, the previous season. It has a lot of fans hoping that the club were actually planning to do the same for Zungu. To their credit, it is thought that they really did. According to reports, sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr had several meetings with the deep-lying playmaker. It is then said that Amakhosi ended up giving up on their pursuit for the player after accepting that they would not be able to meet his personal demands.

That is when Sundowns came in and pounced, with the great relationship Zungu has with coach Rulani Mokwena helping to get the player back to Chloorkop, where the player penned at three-year deal with an option. But having seem very little game time last season, due to fitness issues and injuries, that may have opened a window for Chiefs to look into the possibility of the deal again, as previously reported.

Chiefs’ sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jnr then came out to explain that his side were not looking to bring Zungu in from Sundowns. Now according to Soccer-Laduma, the club itself have come out and told the player he is going no where. 

No Chiefs move for Zungu, staying put at Sundowns

“The likelihood of Bongani Zungu leaving Mamelodi Sundowns during the current transfer window is now slim, with the club informing the player’s camp he is not for sale under any circumstances. But these words have been uttered before by clubs, only to do a shock U-turn when it turns out the price is right….” Said wrote the publication.

It is unlikely that Chiefs would go for Zungu in this window, seeing that he still has two more years to run on his contract at Sundowns.
