Chiefs travel to Tanzania without TOP STAR

Kaizer Chiefs are currently in Tanzania for their high-profile friendly match against Young Africans (Yanga) this Saturday.

Kaizer Chiefs will continue their pre-season training when they play Tanzania’s Young Africans SC this weekend.

A full strength Chiefs squad was assembled on Thursday to embark on a 10 pm flight to Tanzania, the club said in a statement.

One player who is set to miss the tour is Khama Billiat.

The former Zimbabwean international stopped training with Amakhosi last month and the club has not heard from the star since 29 June.

Billiat not part of Chiefs squad in Tanzania

“Following the expiry of attacking midfielder Khama Billiat’s Kaizer Chiefs contract on 30 June 2023, the Club tabled a new offer for the Zimbabwean marksman to remain with Amakhosi. However, to date, the player has not responded to the offer or any attempts to contact him,” Chiefs said two weeks ago.

The Soweto giants will arive in Tanzania on Friday where they will play in a high-profile friendly at the Benjamin Mkapa stadium in the Tanzanian capital city, Dar es Salaam.

Kick-off time is 19:00

“With the league set to get underway in a fortnight’s time, we view this tour involving matches against quality opposition as a valuable opportunity to get the boys match-ready for the start of the season,” says Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr., who will accompany the squad on their travels.

“We intend to hit the ground running in our opening fixture against Chippa and establish forward momentum from the word ‘go’,” he adds.

Following the conclusion of the Tanzanian leg, the Chiefs contingent will journey south to Botswana for another keenly anticipated clash against Township Rollers a week later, on 29 July, at the national stadium in the capital, Gaborone. Kick-off is at 3pm.
