Kodisang links to Chiefs: ‘Yes, there have been talks!’

Kobamelo Kodisang could still quite possibly make a move to Kaizer Chiefs despite his overseas club triggering a two-year contract option.

Portuguese outfit Braga SC have triggered a two-year extension option on the contract of winger Kobamelo Kodisang, who has been linked with Kaizer Chiefs. However, this does not necessarily signal the end of this story.

There has been talk that Braga intend to loan Kodisang out to the lower division, which is not an appealing prospect for the former Bidvest Wits playmaker who moved to Braga three years ago.

“Braga have exercised their option on Kobamelo, that’s a further two seasons,” his agent Mike Makaab explained to SABC Sport. “They’ve informed us that their intention is to loan him out to a second division team, which we are not happy with – we are not going to accept nor does the player want to do that.”

Negotiations are not at a ‘formal level’ yet for the Chiefs target

In another interview with GagasiFM, Makaab further revealed that talks were being held between all parties, while confirming that Naturena could be a potential destination if Kodisang does leave the Portuguese side.

“Braga did exercise their two-year option but we did know they were going to do it. Because they’ve spent three years developing KK. We’ve made it clear to them that if they don’t see him as a member of their first-team squad, we want him out of the club – either on loan or a permanent transfer.

“Is it possible that he can come back to South Africa? Of course it is. Have we been in discussions with Kaizer Chiefs? Yes, we have. Again, it’s very difficult to finalise anything and they [Chiefs] understand that, they are mature. I have a fantastic relationship with the club…

“I can tell you that at this point in time, there is only one South African football club we’re taking to. And the reason is, they’re the club we’ve engaged. I’m hoping to, I would say that in the next couple of weeks, I’m hoping we can do something to (get) KK outside of Braga.

“Coming back home is a possibility. We’ve been discussing it with Kaizer Chiefs, yes. Football deals are complex, they’re not easy. We’ve spoke to the player, we’ve spoke to the football club in Portugal and when I saw ‘we’ve spoken to Chiefs, ‘we’ve engaged’ with Chiefs.

“You must understand that until Braga give us the go-ahead we cannot take that engagement to a formal level.”
