Chiefs to say goodbye to home-grown midfielder – Report

Kaizer Chiefs have begun to prepare next season’s squad. Reports say a midfielder on loan at Swallows FC is set to be released.

Kaizer Chiefs have started to create next season’s squad, with one of the loaned-out players reportedly on his way out of the club’s payroll.

KAIZER CHIEFS TO RELEASE MIDFIELDER

Having first made his name under Gavin Hunt at Amakhosi, the 24-year-old midfielder Darrel Matsheke was shipped to Swallows FC on loan.

According to this latest report from Soccer Laduma, Chiefs are deciding to part ways with Matsheke after failing to command a regular place at the Dube Birds.

FORMER AMAKHOSI SKIPPER TO COACH HIS NATION

Former Chiefs skipper Patrick Mabedi is going international. He has been named as Malawi’s assistant coach.

Remember Patrick Mabedi in a Chiefs shirt? Of course, you should. He captained Amakhosi for eight seasons with his shirt always tucked into his shorts.

The news was announced by the Malawi Football Association via social media. The report said the former Chiefs number five will double up as the U20s coach on what is a short-term deal until September 2023.

“FAM has appointed Flames Assistant coach and Under 20 Head Coach Patrick Mabedi as Flames Caretaker coach until September 2023,” the FA said.

“Mabedi will see the team through the two remaining 2023 AFCON Qualifiers against Ethiopia in June and Guinea in September as well as the COSAFA Cup in May,” the note added.
