Johnson has often alluded to the media that, he believes in the current crop of players at Chiefs. For that reason he says he just needs more time to coach them, rather than go into the market. He would be the first to understand the expectations at the club, however, both from the fans and management. If he is to be honest, he would know the squad needs to be reinforced.

So far during this transfer window, Chiefs have been linked with the likes of Fawaaz Basadien from Stellenbosch FC.  Oswin Appollis of Polokwane City has also made the list as well as Riaan Hanamub of AmaZulu. Another player that was linked with the club is Swedish based attacking midfielder Tashreeq Matthews. In the goal keeping department, they have also been heavily linked to Nigerian international goalkeeper Stanley Nwabili.

Chiefs to signs Maduna for free?

But before any of those names on the list, it is thought that Chiefs were tracking attacker Siphesihle Maduna. Chiefs have been linked to Maduna since last season, with the expectation they would sign him in the off-season. That came after confusion over his contract expiry date, with suggestions then that it was expiring in the June. That proved not to be the case, however, with AmaZulu chairman Sandile Zungu coming out very quickly to clarify that.

All of that could now prove immaterial, however, after AmaZulu confirmed Maduna’s early release on Saturday. Before then, it was reported that Chiefs had already finalized a pre-agreement for the player. This agreement would see the attacker join Amakhosi at the end of the season. If that was indeed the case, then all parties now have the green light to go ahead with the deal. It would be a win-win situation as it would happen six-months earlier.
