Kaizer Chiefs can’t catch a break when it comes to injury and illness as they have confirmed the absence of another first team squad member.

Goalkeeper Brandon Petersen is the man injured with the initial indication coming from the national team camp.

Kaizer Chiefs dealt injury blow

Petersen had been set to form part of the Bafana Bafana squad for a pair of friendlies in Europe.

The Kaizer Chiefs stopper failed to make the cut when Hugo Broos announced his 23-man group.

“I would have loved to select him because I am looking for South African goalkeepers playing regularly for their clubs, but unfortunately he is injured,” Broos told the SABC during a live broadcast of the final squad to Europe.

Following up with the club, Soccer Laduma, have reported that Petersen had torn an abdominal muscle during training and was now undergoing treatment.

The injury comes as a blow to Petersen’s hopes of establishing himself as Kaizer Chiefs’ first-choice goalkeeper.

Petersen faces fierce competition for his spot with Daniel Akepyi, Bruce Bvuma and Itumeleng Khune all dead kean to take the gloves.’

As things stand at Kaizer Chiefs, Petersen is likely to be replaced by Bvuma for the upcoming fixture against Golden Arrows.

Bvuma remains in the Bafana Bafana squad that will travel to Europe.
