Chiefs are expected to announce a new coach imminently, and release a whole host of players in the process.

Players like Siyethemba Sithebe and Sifiso Hlanti have been mentioned, with their deals up soon. They have been joined by Happy Mashiane and Zitha Kwinika of late. One player that has been fighting those exit rumours at Chiefs is Njabulo Ngcobo. Now besides those names, the likes of Edmilson Dove, George Matlou and Keagan Dolly will see their contracts run out.

Sithebe was touted for Chiefs stay

Sithebe is the one player that was thought to be nailed on for an exit at Chiefs, the dreadlocked midfielder hardly featured under both Molefi Ntseki and Cavin Johnson. Yes, he has been injured for the bulk of the season, but before and after his knock, he was not being considered for match day squads. It then came as a surprise when he was selected to start the 0-0 draw against Cape Town City. He then also started the loss to Stellenbosch.

Last month, the publication reported that Chiefs were considering a contract renewal for Sithebe. This would’ve not been plausible for many of an Amakhosi persuasion at the start of the year. It was then reported that the club were lining up a fresh two-year deal for the player. But now according to KickOff.com the player is still in danger of leaving the club.

Should Sithebe leave Chiefs, he is believed to be attracting interest from two KZN clubs. Those being Golden Arrows and his former side AmaZulu

Could now leave?

“No, no they (Arrows) still like him (Sithebe). Obviously it all depends with what happens at Chiefs; if he gets a new offer and agrees to a new deal ad things like that,” said a source to the publication.

Sithebe made 11 appearances for Chiefs this season, with 10 coming in 2024.
