Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly set up a meeting with former Nigeria head coach Jose Peseiro with a view to offer him a deal for next season.

According to Soccer Laduma, there had been plenty of applications from across the world for the vacant coaching position at Chiefs.

Amakhosi are in desperate need of a permanent head coach as things continue to go South for them even after making the necessary coaching changes.

Cavin Johnson came in to take over from Molefi Ntseki this season after the supporters made it clear that they don’t want him as their coach.

A number of coaches were then linked with Chiefs, including Piso Mosimane among others and most recently Steve Komphela.

However, the Glamour Boys appear to be looking for someone from outside the country to lead the team for the new season.

KAIZER CHIEFS SET TO MEET FORMER NIGERIA COACH

“The Siya crew has learnt that Kaizer Chiefs are considering well-travelled Jose Peseiro as a possible solution to take over the club’s head coaching role,” reads part of the report.

“Well-placed sources have informed the crew that Chiefs’ management have set up a meeting with the Africa Cup of Nations silver medallists’ agent the possible view of roping him at the end of the 2023/24 season,” added the report.

FOREIGN COACH A SOLUTION FOR AMAKHOSI?

In 2009, Chiefs chairman Dr Kaizer Motaung told members of the media that there were only two local mentors could coach his club.

At the time, Motaung was believed to be talking about Gavin Hunt and Pitso Mosimane who were at the top of their game.

Nonetheless, Hunt did get an opportunity to coach Chiefs but he only lasted for eight months following a series of poor results in the league.

“Football is a game of opinions off the pitch, and my opinion is that there are only two South African-born coaches who could handle either Chiefs or Pirates, and neither of those two coaches are available. Therefore, we are forced to look overseas,” said Motaung at the time.
