Kaizer Chiefs Reserves gave a silver lining to a cloudy weekend for Amakhosi fans when they defeated Moroka Swallows Reserves 4-1 in a DStv Diski Challenge encounter on Sunday, 10 March.

The victory enabled fourth-placed Kaizer Chiefs to close the gap between themselves and third-placed Orlando Pirates to four points after 21 rounds of the national Under-23 league competition.

Amakhosi will be looking to make up the seven points by which they trail log leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns, in their remaining nine rounds of the campaign, beginning with a visit from Lamontville Golden Arrows Reserves on Saturday, 16 March.

Meanwhile, it was a sombre weekend for Kaizer Chiefs when they lost their DStv Premiership Soweto derby to bitter rivals Orlando Pirates on Saturday.

The final score at the FNB Stadium read 3-2 to the Buccaneers.

As reported by The South African website, the Glamour Boys led the clash on two occasions, but ultimately ended up on the losing side after 90 minutes.

It was only the second time in the PSL professional era that Orlando Pirates had completed a league ‘double’ over the Soweto neighbours.

While Orlando Pirates moved up to second place in the standings after their win, Kaizer Chiefs slipped to seventh spot.
