Chiefs have quite a few high profile players that will be out of contract at the club, at the end of the season as it stands, unless they do something about it.

Chiefs in danger of losing players for free

Those players include Keagan Dolly, Edmilson Dove, Sifiso Hlanti, Njabulo Ngcobo and Siyethemba Sithebe. All of the above are now officially in a position to start talking to other teams in an effort to secure themselves a pre-contract for next season. Some of these players are or have been key for Chiefs at different times of their career at the club and could be retained by the team.

Some of those players may not be willing to wait around for Chiefs to start negotiations and seek greener pastures elsewhere. It would not be ideal for Amakhosi to lose some for free, and one of those players is Mozambican international Dove. He joined the club on a two-year deal as a free agent last season and quickly became one of their key players. He went on to win two Man of the Match awards in two consecutive derbies. Now according to Soccer-Laduma talks over a new contract for the left sided defender have since been put on pause.

Dove contract talks on freeze?

“For now, we can say the talks have been put on hold. You know the player needs to be focused when such negotiations are going on so with him being in the Mozambique squad for Afcon the decision of whether he stays or not will be taken when he returns from Afcon. Yes, the team has shown interest in keeping him but there are other things that all the involved parties are discussing and that’s why they can’t continue while the main subject is not available,” said a source to the same publication.

Should Dove have a good AFCON and attract international scouts, that could mean he leaves Chiefs on a free with greener pastures already guaranteed. The situation is certainly one to be monitored.
