Kaizer Chiefs fans are waiting with bated breath to find out what the PSL will say in Wednesday’s press conference at the league’s offices.

The press conference is scheduled for 11:00.

In December 2021, Chiefs wrote to the PSL requesting for the postponement of their fixtures due to the Covid-19 outbreak within the camp.

At the time, Amakhosi asked to be excused from all their December fixtures as they had 31 positive cases.

The number of positive cases rose from 31 to over 50 in a space of two weeks – and that led to them NOT honouring two league fixtures against Cape Town City and Golden Arrows.

WHAT DID THE PSL SAY TO CHIEFS?

After weeks of silence on the matter, the PSL released a statement towards the end of 2021, informing the football fraternity that it had rejected Amakhosi’s request.

The statement came as a shock, especially after the league’s failure to communicate on time during the Amakhosi’s period of asking for the postponement of their matches.

As a result, the PSL set aside Wednesday, 5 January 2022 for the press conference where they are expected to share more information on their decision to reject Chiefs’ request.

WHAT SHOULD CHIEFS EXPECT ON WEDNESDAY?

As the statement said, Chiefs should expect rejection from the PSL – and that’s purely because of the Covid-19 related resolutions agreed to by the clubs in December 2020.

Part of the rules says no team should use Covid-19 as an excuse for not honouring their fixtures; and accordingly, Chiefs are in violation of that rule.

Secondly, Chiefs should expect to be charged for misconduct and bringing the league into disrepute.

And lastly, the PSL is expected to clarify whether or not Chiefs will forfeit the two matches they missed with maximum points from those matches awarded to the opposition.
