Kaizer Chiefs have performed a massive overhaul with a number of big-name signings arriving at Naturena. Is there a guarantee the project will succeed though?

AMAKHOSI SIGNINGS

Pule Mmodi eventually joined from Golden Arrows after protracted negotiations and rumours. Ranga Chivaviro was acquired from Marumo Gallants while Given Msimango, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe and Mduduzi Mdantsane were signed from TS Galaxy, SuperSport and Cape Town City respectively.

Venezuelan midfield schemer Edson Castillo arrived at Naturena a month ago along with Tebogo Potsane from Royal AM. Colombian striker Efmamjjasond González bolsters the club’s attacking options while Sibongiseni Mthethwa signed this week from Stellenbosch. Is he the missing piece in a winning puzzle? Free agent Luke Fleurs could follow suit after the deadline.

TRIMMED THE FAT

Aside from a number of eye-catching arrivals, the club have also been ruthless with its outgoing business. Erick Mathoho, Phathutshedzo Nange, Kamohelo Mahlatsi, Khama Billiat, Cole Alexander, Austin Dube, Kgaogelo Sekgota and Caleb Bimenyimana were all deemed surplus to requirements and allowed to leave the club. Meanwhile, an offer of a reported R12 million for Siyabonga Ngezana from FCSB in Romania was too good to turn down.

Will this large-scale rebuilding process show immediate results on the pitch? Time will tell. Just a reminder that Kaizer Chiefs haven’t won silverware of any description since their DStv Premiership title win in 2015.
