Awakening a sleeping giant like Kaizer Chiefs isn’t an easy task but if anyone’s got the pedigree and personality to do it, it’s Pitso Mosimane.

In a cryptic tweet, Pitso suggested that he has accomplished the mission set out for him at Al Ahli Saudi by guiding them back to the Saudi Pro League. As one of the founding clubs in Saudi Arabia, that is a minimum requirement for an entity of that size and stature. Will Pitso want to see that project through and test his mettle in the top-flight of Saudi Arabian football? Taking Kaizer Chiefs back to the summit of African football would arguably be the biggest and more rewarding challenge in his glittering career.

Kaizer Chiefs still the most decorated club in South Africa

For all of Sundowns’ utter dominance of South African football this millennium, history is still on the side of Kaizer Chiefs. However, the modern twist on this tale doesn’t paint a pretty picture for the Glamour Boys. No league titles since 2015, no CAF Champions League football next season and a record number of defeats in a single PSL campaign. Off the pitch, Chiefs remain an enormous entity with huge commercial appeal. Their on-pitch performance should be much more closely aligned with that.
