Kaizer Chiefs reportedly parted ways with MILLIONS of Rands to lure their newest signing to Naturena on Wednesday.

According to a report by SABC Sport, Amakhosi paid in the region of R10 million to sign Sibongiseni Mthethwa from Stellenbosch FC.

Chiefs and Stellies reached an agreement for the transfer of Mthethwa on Wednesday, and this was confirmed by the Western Cape outfit.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Stellies revealed that Chiefs had activated Mthethwa’s buy-out clause, and the player then flew to Johannesburg to complete the deal.

“Kaizer Chiefs forked out a fee in the region of R10 million to trigger Sibongiseni Mthethwa’s buy-out clause at Stellenbosch this week, SABC Sport understands,” reads the report.

Kaizer Chiefs may have unveiled Sibongiseni Mthethwa as their newest signing but the midfielder CANNOT play against Mamelodi Sundowns.

‘Ox’, as Mthethwa is affectionately known, can only watch either from the stands or at home simply because he’s Cup-tied.

The 29-year-old midfielder has already featured for Stellenbosch in this season’s MTN8 where they lost in the quarter-finals.

According to the PSL rule book, a player cannot represent two clubs in a same competition in one season.

A player whose name appears on a team sheet of a participating club in the competition will be deemed to be Cup-tied and may not play for another club in the same competition for the same season.

It is, therefore, for the same reason that Chiefs confirmed that Mthethwa will only start training with his new teammates on Monday, 25 September.
