NEW-LOOK SOWETO GIANTS

Amakhosi and the Bucs will look very different new season.

The Soweto giants are desperate to compete with Mamelodi Sundowns who have dominated the PSL for the last six years. Therefore, both camps are going all out to try and ensure they have the firepower across the park to far more competitive next season.

The early signs are there that Pirates have the potential to challenge downs. Last season they beat Sundowns 3-0 in the return leg of their MTN8 semi-final on route to claiming the trophy. Additionally, they lifted the Nedbank Cup. Therefore, they secured a double under Riveiro in his first season in charge.

Since then, the Bucs have build momentum finishing their pre-season tour of Spain unbeaten. Furthermore, they have added the likes of Kapinga from Sundowns, Otladisa and Maswanganyi to further bolster a promising attack that already has red-hot Monnapule Saleng. Depth will be key for the Bucs next season with the Soweto giants returning to the CAF Champions League.

On the other hand, Molefi Ntseki is also focused on building depth. He wants to ensure that they have back-up for injuries, suspension and drop in form.

“Good players lose form, you need replacements for that, good players get injured, you have to have somebody ready to [step in], and also good players get suspended and you will need somebody ready to take over,” Ntseki stated on iDiskiTimes.
