Kaizer Chiefs have taken a decision to offload one of their veteran defenders who spent seven years with them.

Daniel Cardoso will leave Chiefs when his contract expires at the end of June, and he will be free to join the club of his choice.

Reports of Cardoso possibly leaving Chiefs started doing the rounds immediately after the club’s final match in May.

The 33-year-old also confirmed interest in his services from clubs in South Africa and abroad but he had hoped to stay at Chiefs.

In a statement, Amakhosi said Cardoso will not be offered a new deal when his current deal expires.

Cardoso joined Chiefs from Free State Stars in 2015, but he enjoyed a love-hate relationship with the majority of the club fans.

He leaves Chiefs having played 185 times and scoring 12 goals despite playing mostly as a centre-back.

Cardoso’s was Amakhosi’s trusted penalty taker for years before the arrival of Keagan Dolly at the start of the recently ended season.
