Kaizer Chiefs welcome two strikers in camp, another one still to come

Mmh, it’s July, and Kaizer Chiefs are still assessing foreign strikers. It all looks a bit unorganised if we’re honest.

12-time PSL champions Kaizer Chiefs are deep in the hunt for a new center forward or two, thanks to the departures of two traditional strikers.

KAIZER CHIEFS’ SEARCH FOR NUMBER NINES

As The South African previously reported in the past month and more, Amakhosi let go of Samir Nurkovic and Leonardo Castro.

The job that is facing coach Arthur Zwane and management is finding replacements now, but you wonder why it has been left so late.

According to this fresh report, the Glamour Boys have welcomed a Burundian international, Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana, as well as TS Galaxy’s Wayde Lekay, who scored eight goals and made one assist in 48 games last term.

“SABC Sport has learnt that Burundian international Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana, who was in Johannesburg last month when he scored and was sent off as Burundi held Namibia to a 1-1 stalemate in a 2023 AFCON qualifier, is looking to impress coach Arthur Zwane along with former TS Galaxy striker Wayde Lekay,” the national broadcaster reported.

“Bimenyimana, 24, is a well-traveled striker who has played in the CAF Confederation Cup for Rwandan outfit Rayon Sports, as well as in Slovakia, Latvia and Kazakhstan, while Lekay, 25, rose to the local top flight in 2020 after spending time in the lower divisions.”

Additionally, the report said another center forward is on the way to Naturena for assessment. The player’s name is Musa Kamara and Sierra Leone is the country he calls home.

“The second international has been identified as Musa Kamara from Sierra Leone, where he was previously on the books of Bo Rangers, as he now looks to grow in one of Africa’s more prominent leagues,” the report added.

“The 21-year-old has yet to touch down on South African soil, however, as he awaits a travel itinerary from Amakhosi.

“Yes, he’s coming to Chiefs and everything is fine. We have been negotiating with them for some time now but we are waiting for traveling details before coming to SA,” sources to Naturena told the SABC.

“They sent us an invitation letter and we did the visa application and it was successful. Musa is a top striker and is currently doing well in the national team as well. Chiefs is a big club that would suit him perfectly,” one source concluded.

TIME AND RISK

The Soweto giants might need some luck if any potential new striker will be a success. The season is starting in four weeks.

Assessing strikers at this time before possibly signing them will remain a risk if they’re unproven in the PSL.

Clubs would bring in a high-scoring striker from the continent before they turn out to lack too much technical quality and speed for the PSL. We’ve seen it occur year on year for decades.

Meanwhile, Royal AM’s Victor Letsoalo remains a target after reportedly asking his club for a transfer.
