Kaizer Chiefs news: Billiat still ‘far from returning’

Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has shared some concerning player injury news as the season heads towards its business end.

Kaizer Chiefs secured a 2-1 victory over 10-man Stellenbosch FC this past weekend, with that result extending Amakhosi’s winning streak in the league to four matches.

Looking ahead to the remaining Chiefs matches, they should be feeling confident of bagging enough points to put themselves in a strong position to challenge for second place and a coveted CAF Champions League qualifying berth.

This Saturday, Arthur Zwane’s charges will take on bottom-placed Marumo Gallants, and so another comfortable victory should be on the cards.

However, it’s now been confirmed that there is some less than ideal news on the injury front.

“Mshini (Nkosingiphile Ngcobo) is out this season, he’s not going to be available,” he said when asked by iDiski Times. “Khama (Billiat) started jogging last week, if not the week before last. He’s far from returning to play, but we don’t doubt our bio is working on him before we can hand him over to football actions, which is the coaches on the field.

“Then we’ll take it from there, I will be fighting for his fitness and make sure that he’s ready to play. Otherwise we don’t want to risk and hurt him again. Tower (Eric Mathoho) just got back, fighting for fitness as well. Cole (Alexander), he is the one that looks closest to the starting team.”

In what will be some better news, the club should at least welcome back a couple of players.

Phathutshedzo Nange missed this past weekend’s match due to a family bereavement, but is expected to be available this week. Meanwhile, Yusuf Maart will also be back after serving out his suspension.

This past weekend it was reported that Reeve Frosler is also not ready to return to play.
