“Back to brilliance” is the catchphrase accompanying the Kaizer Chiefs new kit, and the shirt design is eerily similar to what the club donned on their way to picking up their last piece of silverware.

With rivals Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns having unveiled their new strips for the upcoming season, the Glamour Boys are set to officially unveil theirs on Tuesday evening at a gala event.

However, their hand seems to have been forced after the kit leaked on social media, hours before the official reveal.

Kaizer Chiefs new kit: The big reveal

The Kaizer Chiefs Twitter account gave its followers more than a glimpse of what’s in store by posting a photo of the home jersey, which appears to pay homage to the one the players donned during the 2014/15 season, when they last lifted the PSL title.

The away strip sees the club bring back their famous white tops and shorts, with a mosaic on the sleeves similar to what’s on the front of the home jersey. This is after the colour had been replaced by black, navy and purple in recent seasons.

“The new kit represents our vision for the new season. This year we’re resetting; resetting our minds to reignite the passion and energy of the Amakhosi,” Kaizer Chiefs Marketing Director Jessica Motaung said in a club statement.

“As with the home jersey, this is another nod to our rich history. We decided to pay tribute to our white jersey that was donned by legends and former players like Thabo Mooki, Collins Mbesuma, Jimmy Tau, Siphiwe Tshabalala, Knowledge Musona, Kaizer Motaung Jnr and Jabu Pule.”

Old meets new

The new Kaizer Chiefs kit was modelled by a mixture of long-serving stalwarts, academy graduates and new signing.

Skipper Willard Katsande was among the first players seen in the new strip, alongside Lorenzo Gordinho, youngsters Happy Mashiane and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, as well as recent recruit Samir Nurkovic.

Like Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs will debut their new kit when the two sides meet in the Carling Black Label Cup clash at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 27 July.

Chiefs begin their PSL campaign with a visit to Highlands Park eight days later.
